Korea (Part 2)

I'll finish up the pictures of Korea this week so that we can post Halloween pictures next week.


First we harvested persimmons. I have to tell you that these are so yummy. If you've never experienced them, you are missing out, especially the ones that are overripe and falling off the tree. My face was covered with sticky goodness.

Then we harvested chestnuts (both from my in-laws' farm). Chestnuts were a bit harder since you can't touch them or pick them up with your hands. You have to use a pair of metal tongs to pry the chestnuts out. 

While we were in Korea, my birthday came and went. My Korean family celebrated in great style with a feast, presents and the singing of "Happy Birthday."  I tried to upload the video of the birthday singing but it didn't work.  In it my older brother-in-law (고모부) is singing "Happy Birthday" in English and everyone else is singing in Korean. It's pretty great. 

A few days later, we went to a huge tower in Daegu that overlooks the whole city.  It had this exhibit inside where you can pose like you are a part of the picture. Here are some of our favorites. 

Everywhere we went, Hana was always the center of attention and you can see why. She's just so cute.

Unfortunately our trip had to come to an end. We had a great dinner on our last night there. We tried to get more pictures of family and were more successful than we have been on past trips.

We took full advantage of the plane's bassinet and not only did Hana sleep in it but she also played in it when we propped her up. 

That is the extent of our pictures from the trip. We loved going and hope to go again soon. 

Korea (Part 1)

We had a wonderful time in Korea. Everyone adored Hana and she was a great baby for taking such a long journey. Sorry we didn't post while we were there. We had good intentions but the time got away from us. So here are some of our pictures. (There are too many for just one post.)


We made it to the Seoul Airport and had to get Hana into something a little warmer. I have to say that this is my favorite sweater ever and it fit like a glove. (We love you, Candy.)  As soon as we got to Caleb's sister's (고모) house in Gumi, Hana had a bath and loved it as usual. 

If you were ever missing Hana, you could usually find her on her aunt's (고모) back, totally dead to the world.  Her cousin (언니) loved playing with her and would follow her around, clapping her hands to get Hana's attention. 

We went on a beautiful trail that winds around a lake up in the mountains. It was beautiful and the weather was perfect. 

Then it was off to Hadong to see Grandma (할머니) and Grandpa (할아버지) (and everyone else in the village who came to see what a cute baby she was).  This is one of the prettiest places you can find. It's surrounded by mountains and has a pure river running through it which you can see that we enjoyed. 

We went to a kind of museum that has a traditional Korean village and is right in Caleb's hometown. It was really fun and Hana had her first run-in with a cow. She tried to pet it and when she did, the cow tried to lick her. Oh if you only could have seen her face. 

It was also the right time to harvest rice. There were scarecrows all set up like a festival.  Not quite sure all about it.  I do know that those yellow rice fields ready to be harvested are beautiful so I'll leave you with those pictures for the post.
