Pumpkins in Hawaii

So what happens to pumpkins in Hawaii? You'll see. We went to a pumpkin carving festival and had so much fun. Yumi and I got really tired, hungry and bored at the end but our moms did a great job of making nice looking pumpkins.

First we got to pick out our pumpkin.

I wanted to eat it.

Then we cleaned it off.

Gloves for taking the guts out.

I'm not so much into ewwy stuff.

I picked the hardest design for Mom to carve. Mwhaaaa!

Mom's attempt at carving. (Dad had to finish)

Auntie Miho's looked better than mine.
So what does happen to pumpkins in Hawaii? I'll tell you. They mold within two days. That's right. It was carved on Sat and by Monday morning it was totally covered in mold. Dad tried to get some pictures but it had totally collapsed by Monday night. It would have made for a nice science experiment.

Uh oh!!!

Totally gross!

Oh well. At least we have nice beaches.

Mom's birthday

Mom had a birthday not too long ago. Unfortunately I was asleep for the whole thing so here is what I was told happened. Mom had to work and didn't think that anything was going to happen on her birthday.  When she got home (at 9:30pm), Dad had a surprise waiting for her.

Not only were there people here waiting to surprise Mom, but Dad had a whole table full of dessert, cheese, veggies and other yummy things.

Happy birthday Mom!!!

Something is moving, Mom

So yes, we went to the beach, again, and yes Mom took more pictures. Gosh you would think we lived in Hawaii and that my parents had finally made it a habit to go the beach once a week. (It sure took them long enough to realize this. Sometimes I think they're slowing down with age.) We went with Aunty Miho and Yumi.

I love Yumi, but she's such a poser.

I'm not much better with my cheesey, smiley face.

Now for the real story. Dad brought home something interesting last week. He poured it into my sand bucket. When I looked inside I saw water and some shells. Then the shells started to move. I wasn't sure what to do. I picked one up, but I wouldn't let Mom take a picture of me and my shell. She tried really hard, but I didn't want to let him go.

This is the best she could get.
Mom and Dad tried to show me how to hold these moving shells. Apparently they are called hermit crabs. I saw Mom and Dad hold them, but didn't want to hold one myself. They tried to get me to let the crab crawl on my foot or leg, but I still wasn't having any parts of it. What I liked best was looking at them in the water and then picking them up (without having them crawl on my hand).

Funny thing about those crabs. I've been looking for them but they have disappeared. I wonder where Mom and Dad are hiding them?

My smile

I'm beginning to smile on cue for mom. This is how it looks.

I also love to color (for at least 2 minutes at a time).

What? Haven't you ever colored before?

Mom and I have started going to story time at the library once a week. I love the crafts at the end, but I still have trouble sitting still for the stories. It's different than when Mom reads to me. I'm so far away from all the action at story time. The point of this rambling is my ears that I made this week to look like Clifford the Big Red Dog. Pretty fun huh?

Short & Sweet

Yes I know I'm short and sweet but really the title is in reference to me keeping this post short and sweet. Mom has just a few photos of me in the pool for now. Guess I'll need to do something to get that lady to take pictures.

I always try to hug and kiss the birds but they always fly away. This is what it looks like.

Catching up on Labor Day

I'm just so embarrassed that it's taken Mom so long to post these photos. You would think that longer working hours and trying to keep a growing, active girl occupied would leave her with plenty of time for blog posts and such. Here's what we did for Labor Day. We had a cookout on Sat. I know the picture looks so beautiful that we must have been photoshopped in but we promise it's always that gorgeous here.

Monday we headed to Sea Life Park. It was the most fun.  I got to feed turtles, watch sea lions and I especially loved when the dolphins would jump in the air.

Just chillin' before the dolphin show

We had some great family time and we'll show you more pictures soon.
